Our Story

From Our Family to Yours

What started as a love of baking became a way to care for our family — and eventually, something we could share with our Summerville community.

Where It started

It Started With a Love of Baking

I started making traditional yeasted breads in 2019 back in my home state of Massachusetts. Baking quickly became more than a hobby — it became a form of therapy for me and something I truly loved.

In 2021, we were blessed with the ultimate blessing: pregnancy. We decided it was time to move closer to family in South Carolina, and along the way, we fell in love with Summerville. So we packed up for a big adventure and moved 17 hours away to start a new chapter in the Lowcountry.

The Inspiration

Then Came Laila

We welcomed our daughter, Laila, in September 2021.
At the beginning of 2022, we learned that Laila had a soy allergy, which suddenly limited many of the foods she could safely eat. We quickly discovered that soy is in far more products than most people realize.

“I was determined to figure out a better way.”

That journey led me to sourdough.

I began making sourdough breads and sourdough-based baked goods for our family, spending countless hours researching, taking classes, experimenting, and perfecting my craft.

A Leap of Faith

Laila’s Lowcountry Sourdough Was Born

By 2023, after a lot of prayer, we decided to take a leap of faith and turn that passion into something we could share with our community.

Named after the little girl who inspired it all — our daughter, Laila (pronounced lie-lah).

What Matters To Us

Baked With Purpose

The way we bake is shaped by the same things that started this journey — family, quality ingredients and community.

Organic Ingredients

We choose quality ingredients and thoughtfully make each batch with the same care we would want for our own family.

Support Local

Whenever possible, we use local produce and products while supporting the farmers, makers and small businesses around us.

Made as a Family

What began as one mom baking for her daughter has grown into a family effort, with both of us now baking side by side.

Community First

We’re proud to be part of the Lowcountry community and to build relationships with the customers, farmers, makers and bakers who make it special.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

What Started for Our Family Became Our Passion

What started as one mom trying to create better options for her daughter quickly became a passion for our entire family.
Today, my husband bakes alongside me and shares the same commitment to creating food we’re proud of and supporting the community we now call home.

For us, Laila’s Lowcountry Sourdough is about more than bread.

It’s about family, faith, community, and sharing something made with care.

From the Kitchen to the Community

What began at home has grown into something we’re proud to share throughout the Lowcountry.
